Michael McClain

MHS, MS, PA-C

Michael McClain, founder of LeftCoast Healthcare Advisors, is a broadly skilled executive, leader, and ambulatory specialist with over 20 years’ experience in healthcare. As a seasoned Hospitalist PA, he has a unique combination of clinical and operational experience that complement his diverse leadership skillset.

Michael is a nationally recognized speaker and frequent contributor to numerous ASC publications. A former ASC Executive, orthopedic practice CEO, and consultant, he has guided organizations through any number of situations from competitive threats, to practice expansions and new facility developments, to mergers and sales. Most recently he served as Chief Executive for ASCs at one of the largest health systems in the US overseeing more than 40 facilities across 7 states.

Michael earned his Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences, Master of Health Science and Health Care Administration, and Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from Grand Valley State University

BEATA M. CANBY

MBA

Beata M. Canby is an experienced hospital operations and strategy professional with a dedication to mission-driven organizations. She has a strong background in ASC development, facility planning, process redesign and strategic planning for health systems, stand-alone hospitals and ambulatory settings in the U.S. and Canada. Her past work has included campus master planning, strategy-driven facility development, operational redesign and ASC syndication and acquisition. Service line specialties include emergency department, perioperative services and pediatrics. She is also a specialist in Canadian Healthcare P3 (Public Private Partnership) procurement and has served as a past advisor to the Vancouver Island Health Authority and the Provincial Health Services Authority in British Columbia. Most recently, Beata has served as the leader for ambulatory surgery facility development for a large multistate integrated health system on the West Coast.

Beata earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in the Theater from New York University and her Master of Business Administration from the University of Michigan

KEN HAMMER

RN

Ken Hammer is a results-driven executive leader and clinician with extensive experience in the ambulatory surgery industry. Ken has nearly three decades in operating rooms from scrub tech to OR RN to ASC leader to ASC management company executive. As a leader, he has helped organizations create and implement solutions to improve organizational processes, performance, and profitability. Ken excels at building teams that provide clinically excellent care in a collaborative, efficient environment. Over his career, he has led numerous organizations through the accreditation process.

Ken served for 9 years as the President of the Michigan Ambulatory Surgery Association. He has received numerous awards for financial performance, supply cost management, and overall performance.

Katie Sypher

MBA, RD

Katie Sypher is an accomplished healthcare leader with extensive care delivery experience across multiple different healthcare sectors. Her passion is to improve the mental and physical well-being for patients and providers. She has a successful record of medical sales, healthcare operations, physician alignment, customer relations, and patient care. Her past work includes the co-development of two eating disorder treatment centers, managing employee health screenings, medical device sales, and healthcare system operations. Service line specialties include mental health, nutrition, endocrinology, pediatrics, and orthopedics. She is also a specialist in aligning multiple organizations around a care delivery model, has served as an advisor on the BREE collaborative for orthopedic bundles and spoken at conferences on the topics of eating disorders, orthopedic research, and value-based care.

Katie earned her Bachelor of Arts in Nutrition and Dietetics from Point Loma Nazarene University, attended the Registered Dietitian Certificate Program from Loma Linda University, and her Master of Business Administration from Western Governor University

Lanie Dschaak

MBA, MSN, RN

Lanie Dschaak is a skilled nurse with over 30 years of clinical experience in Acute Care Surgery, Critical Care, Ambulatory Surgery, and the Emergency Department. An accomplished leader, Lanie has spent the past decade focused in the ASC/HOPD space. Her expertise lies in increasing efficiencies at small ASCs as well as in planning, building and opening large and small ASCs. Lanie is uniquely experienced in regulatory compliance, patient safety efficiencies, staff/physician satisfaction. She is focused on establishing trusting relationship’s, helping leaders enhance their ability to drive change that may be difficult. Most recently, Lanie served as a Regional Director of operations for a large integrated health system, overseeing 10 hospital owned and joint venture ASCs across Washington, Montana, and Alaska.

Lanie served in the US Army and earned her associate degree in nursing at Everett Community College and attended Grand Canyon University for her BSN, MBA, and MSN.
